Most puck screens on the market act as passive filters, simply keeping your shower screen clean. But can a puck screen actively improve your machine’s water distribution?
We engineered Softflow to do exactly that. Rather than allowing water to follow the path of least resistance, Softflow actively leverages pressure during the extraction process to compel uniform distribution.
The Architecture of Even FlowSoftflow’s exterior layers are precision-machined (15,318 holes in just one layer) to resist water flow at ultra-low hydrostatic pressures (below 0.2 bar). When you begin your pull, a thin film of water will instantly blanket the top layer before passing through. Then, as water permeates the micro-chambers of the middle layer, it is compelled once again to coalesce and re-attain this marginal pressure, before it can pass through the bottom layer.Sequentially, this works to equalise the pressure and distribution across each layer to deliver perfectly homogeneous flow across the entire surface area of your puck. I was intrigued by the video so I bought this on impulse, but have been pleasantly surprised by this puck screen. I thought something was amiss when my first pull ran to 32s when i typically aim for 1:3 in 25s. but once I adjusted my grind size, duration came back on point and I’ve had some really nice shots since. less tart and more lingering sweetness with my usual ethiopian light naturals.
definitely an improvement in extraction. Less channeling, even extraction edge to edge. Puck comes out drier with little to no residue in the basket.
the screen definitely helps prevent channeling (visible especially with the lighter roasts) as the flow is much more evenly distributed. have tried many different screens and none of them work like this. No bullshit, the soft screen does what it says. Buy it, try it, and throw away all your other puck screens!
